The S.Pellegrino Young Chef Academy Award 2023 was unveiled during the night of October 5, marking the close of the fifth edition of the highly thrilling global quest for emerging culinary talent, orchestrated by the S.Pellegrino Young Chef Academy. After a rigorous two-year competition, the Grand Finale unfolded in Milan, where 15 promising young chef winners from various regions showcased their best, unveiling their talent, creativity, and vision for the future of gastronomy. Nelson Freitas impressed the esteemed Grand Jury and secured the prestigious S.Pellegrino Young Chef Academy Award 2023.


A Triumph for Iberian Culinary Talent
Representing the Iberian Countries, young chef Nelson Freitas from Portugal competed with his exceptional signature dish „Crispy red mullet, sea urchin, and homemade black garlic,“ a creation in collaboration with his mentor, Filipe Carvalho. The expert Grand Jury, consisting of globally acclaimed chefs such as Riccardo Camanini, Hélène Darroze, Vicky Lau, Pía León, and Nancy Silverton, commended Freitas for his refined culinary skills, ingredient selection, the dish’s aesthetics, and the compelling messages it conveyed.
